Journeys of Discovery

With more than 100 kilometres of coastline, the Costa del Sol will always be best known for its postcard image of bronzed bodies relaxing on sunbeds with a jug of chilled red wine and lemonade. In reality, of course, the picture is much broader.

Away from the beaches and bustling coastal hubs, the verdant mountain range that extends along most of the coastline is home to numerous villages, some with a rustic air that evokes the classic Andalucía of lore, others with more contemporary features and amenities that have encouraged many new residents to opt for a home in the country rather than a penthouse by the sea.

From the larger villages of Istán, Ojén, Alhaurín, Coín and Ronda to smaller pueblos tucked away in the mountain folds, the Coast’s hinterland offers excellent options for a day trip and picnic with the family, a long, languid lunch at a venta (inn), or a romantic night or weekend away with your partner at a trendy boutique hotel.
